But it did happen with me, so am still gonna retain the post)

Yet another crib session.

Just now got a forward from a friend that said about a plan to boycott all the theatres , malls and restaurants in Bangalore by the software guys for a month so as to teach them a lesson not to hike the prices for no reason.
Now this reminded me of something that I wanted to post a few weeks back and forgot. So doing it now.

After my last visit to PVR, I swore not to go there again. Here's why:
I buy tickets for Lage Raho Munnabhai late nite show on a sunday. Price - Rs.180/-. The ticket said the movie starts at 10pm. I was already running late, so I quickly gobbled up my icecream (I got one more crib session on this icecream coming up) standing outside the entrance (they wont let you take outside food inside the theatre) and manage to get in right at 10:05 pm so that I don't miss the start of the movie.
I wait and wait and wait for the movie to start, but all I see is commercials of some goddamn underwears and toothpastes and colas. And the movie finally starts at 10:40 pm. WTH?????
I didn't pay 180 bucks to these fellows to sit and watch commercials, I can do that right at home on TV!!!
First of all I am pissed with the unreasonable prices of the ticket. And to top it, they show me ads!!!!
In Hyd, the ticket costs 60-80 bucks in a posh theatre Prasads. And PVR in Hyd charges 100/-. Then why is it 180/- in Bangalore? Even if they have their own reasons....why the hell does the customer have to watch ads after paying so much?
Me not happy! Me not going there again. Me ain't letting that fella walk all over me!
Ting

Share a laugh

Got this one through a mail forward and thought of spreading the laughter around

Ting

Autoraj and Helpless Public

I coined the word Autoraj, like Gundaraj :)

So here's the story. I was riding to office at 10:30 am, a time when traffic is still dense but fairly smooth moving. Near madivala, while I am on the left-most lane, I hear lot of honking suddenly. I turn my head right and see a funny / pathetic scene. Two autos going parallel to each other, the second one just at the end of the first one...get the picture? Now the second auto wala had his leg placed on the first auto. And they both are trying to maintain that by driving slow. No, it't not like one guy is pulling the other. They are just driving in tandem. Some fun stunt for them. The entire road ahead of them is free and there is a huge traffic block in the making behind them, cause the first auto guy occupied half of the middle lane and the second guy took over the first lane. Now how would 4 wheelers go ahead. They honk and honk and nothing pinches these two ridiculous auto fellas.

Since I am on the last lane and on a 2 wheeler, I could go past. While I was riding, this thing was going on in my mind.

Come christ college....what do i see????.... Two more autos in the same stunt. I can tell that they are not the previous auto guys. No kidding! Same day, same funny incident, second time. For a moment I thought, 'is it some kinda festival for auto guys that they do this on that day'. Well, my mind is pretty wacky in imagination, so never mind. This time, their stunt was actually stopping me from moving ahead. So I went a bit near the second auto walla, honk once to get his attention, then move my hand like saying 'Wat's going on'... I can't talk from inside a helmet. This guy starts yelling at me in kannada that I couldn't get anyways. But he did act like a gunda. So I quietly took off from there.

Now tell me....WHAT CAN WE DO?

The so called traffic rules and fines...are they anywhere applicable here? Are there any cops patrolling on the roads to keep a check on such stuff? Do we really do anything? Are we boring? Are we getting old? Oh no, we should'nt be that way. Gotta socialize and party more often. Ok good, lemme start with this one. Hmm...

Scene: A bunch of old connections, drinking away and also dancing away at a pub. Hubby and I fit in (or I thought we did). Gang shifs party zone to one of the guys' house. A few cars filled with the gang following a bike and trying to keep track...past midnite!
Thought2: Hey this is nice. This is a whole different world than what we are living in. I like it. Its fun! Am loving it! It is safe, there is no drugs involved(that was my impression of nite life :))...just booze and friends. We should be doing this...why weren't we doing this? Hmmm...

Next day: sms from friend: party at Fuga, be there!
Thought3: Oh No, I thought parties were once a week. Two nites in a row !?!...hmm I dont think I wanna do it. Somehow I am not getting the entu. Don't know the reason. Plus, when do I take care of the other things I had planned for...things that I am unable to take care of during the week. Ok say NO.
Oh wait...wat about being a part of the party gang and being hapenning and stuff?...
Hmm...

That nite: In a nice semi-romantic restaurant with hubby, sipping cocktail and talking sweet nothings and enjoying the food
Thought4: Seems I like this one more than the party last nite, although I seemed to have enjoyed it at that time. I think I wanna hang out just with my hubby...either at home, or at a nice restaurant...or even if its at a pub. Hubby seems to be on the same page.
Yes, we otta be doing this more and the other thing once in a while. That gives a good balance.
And about being hapenning and all...well, who cares! The word I should be looking for is "being enjoying"...and I guess we are right there. So just hang in there.

Hmm...a chain of thoughts that actually led to some clarity and a good conclusion. Ah great!...how often does this really happen anyways :-)
Ting

Latest craze

A few days back Vels told me about this song Newyork Nagaram, and at first when I heard it, I did not like it. And like most of the time, I have grown a liking to it only after listening to the song after quite somet time. Later I discovered the other song from the same movie which is also quite addictive. Here are the two:

NewYork Nagaram

Munbe vaa en anbe vaa

And here's the trailor which is making me wanna go and watch the movie right away, although I wouldn't get a word of that language :-)

By the way, did I mention before...I got this huge crush on this Surya guy (without moush ofcourse)...Sigh! he married someone who I'd call an Idly (out of Jealousy). I gotta admit she looked slimmer in that Newyork song.

Anyways, like all the previous crazes I had, this one also has to fade...the question is when. The market sports such a festive look and all that hustle bustle! Probably the only time that you wouldn't mind paying a bit extra to the vendors though you know they have raised the prices for that one day. Afterall, it's a festival for them too, it wouldn't hurt to pay a bit more and let them enjoy it :). I carefully pick a good looking small idol. All through my childhood we've been using a non-colored clay idol and I would always crib. Now that I am on my own, I go pick the colorful ones :) . Yes I am going to switch back to non-colored ones next year ... for our environment sake.

Back to home, decorate the front door with flower garland and mango leaves. Doesn't it make the house look so nice from outside! Everyone knows its a special day :)

I have learnt two traditional dishes from my Mom for making for this festival - Kudumulu and Paravannam. I feel so proud whenever I make them and they come out just perfect.

Then comes the time for the actual decoration for the pooja. I love this part! You can get so creative :). This year I was able to set up a glow behind the idol, like a halo we see behind God pictures. While I was with my parents, the decoration used to be quite elaborate. It used to be the best part of the day (next to eating the kudumulu ofcourse), coz Dad would make us feel responsible by letting us help him in doing up the pooja place. We hang a wooden mesh kind of thing above the idol and then tie fruits around it. We also decorate the hanging thread with mango leaves and then fill the top of the mesh with lots of leaves. It all looks so pretty. Unfortunately I haven't found that mesh thingie in Bangalore. So I do it the way you see in the picture.
At my parents place, my Dad would read all the mantras and narrate the story and significance of the festival, its the way the pooja is done. But here I had not done that the last 2 times. But this time I discovered the entire mantra and story sequence on Raaga.com ! So, I just played it while I did the pooja :)! Could I be more techy!!!!

So finally its prasadam time and then exchanging the prasadam with neighbours and friends. The evening is spent going around and seeing different types decorations in various Ganesha temples, meeting freinds etc.

Totally satisfying and feel good day, my favrourite festival day- Lord Ganesha's Birthday!

Ting

Fine Dining

Olive Beach - Gourmet a la elegancy.
Nicely tucked into a quite steet near Richmond Road, this one is a surprising discovery I'd say.

The Cuisine - Mediterranean
Service - Firstclass
Ambience - Romantic. I think they added a touch of Moroccan.
Price - A tad on the higher side, but that's ok (about 2.5k for 2)

The entire experience was so amazing that I was hung over it for a while. They totally blew us away. There was nothing I could complain of.
It's not the kind of place where they say they serve Thai and end up serving the same old chinese fried rice topped with some basil. This place takes it's cuisine quite seriously. I had food that I had never tasted before but only read of in food magazines. There was nothing predictable. Each dish that came to the table was totally new and had a story to it. The waiter really did a good job explaining us each and every thing that went into the dish. I never thought I'd eat something like pearly barley for the main course and vegetarian sushi made of wine-leaves and rice. Simply Amazing!

More often than not, when we enter such speciality restaurants, we find very less selection of vegetarian food, but this one had enough stuff, although I could ask for a bit more :)

So there...now that I have a strong recommendation for this restaurant, go ahead and splurge a bit and enjoy the flavourful culinary journey. Don't miss the kiwi margarita, manhattan and mezzanine !
Ting

Sounds of Nature

Just created my youtube account and uploaded some stuff. I am not talking about the hybrid and the fake varieties that you find just on the outskirts with the huts and all. I am talking real stuff. The original crude form dhabas.
My first experience of Dhaba was around 12 years back on the highway between Nasik and Shirdi. I was totally amused to see the small set up with a earthen oven on one side and a small kitchen. We had to sit on coir woven cots with a wooden plank in between which serves as the table. And the food arrives in a thali...two rotis, an onion and a green chilli. Had never seen anything like that before in my life! Then the curries come along in small oval shaped bowls. Seeing the puzzled look on our faces, one of the other customers (lorry driver) showed us what to do with the onion...just give one good bang with your wrist and it would break open. Then enjoy the roti with onion and mirchi. I couldn't do that though...but the entire thing was so amusing.
With a few more road trips I had gotten accustomed to Dhaba eating.
One other Dhaba that I particularly remember is on the Delhi-Jaipur highway. The food was heavenly. The Dhaba guy was very friendly and seeing that we really enjoyed his achar, he packed a big dabba of that achar and handed it over to us while paying the bill. It was so sweet of him :)
Well I don't have any digital pics of those Dhabas, but the memories are intact.

In the past 5 years I had no chance of enjoying a good dhaba until recently when I caught a small nice Dhaba on the highway somewhere between Tiptur and Gubbi. It was almost on par with the authentic dhabas that I talked about. Quite a modest one. Infact here I entertained myself looking at 4-5 people doing their assigned duties for the evening...one was peeling and cleaning the onions, the other was chopping them, another one was cutting the bhindi. The one thing that made me widen my eyes was a person chopping green chillies- A huuuuge heap of cut green chillies(forgot to take a pic). Gosh, thats my hell. Ofcourse I was hit by it in the food too ;). All these guys were really enjoying their work while the music played from a stereo from behind. Ah what a sight!

When the food arrived, I could'nt help appreciating the attempt they made in decorating the salad with an inverted cut lemon :)...quite creative! The taste of the dishes was yummy...the smoke flavour that I love enhanced the taste even more.

Once in a while it's fun to forget about hygene and stuff and go back to the basics and enjoy...isn't it?

He he, I know. It was an experience we never had before. The log-hut atop a tiny hill infront of the river with all the 3star setup, yet very simple and natural - Beautiful. The best part was the view of the river and a few islands from the balcony and the sound of the water waves plus bomboo bushes swaying with the breeze while you comfortably rest on the bed. And the cool breeze which is so fresh and far from pollution, just took my breath away ;).

In the morning we went around the tiny island and there wasn't a single soul around except we two. It was so thrilling! We felt like we were stranded in an island and felt quite adventurous. Supra was all set to be Tom Hanks in Cast Away :)). It was so fun both of us constructing the story for an imaginary movie with just the two of us.

Excellent excellent short trip.

Info: http://www.junglelodges.com/resort_overview.asp?resort=River+Tern+Lodge
Ting

Fine Craftswomenship ;-)

The stuff that Gugu and I made when she was here:
Lampshade

Floor Lamps

Jewellery

Ting

Tadaaa I am back

Well not completely, I am still transitioning to the blog world from the outer world that I had been lost in for a while.

Did someone miss me? Visited Chennai (not so nice), got my car wind shield broken and later repaired, had my youngest sis gugu over to give me company, created a design for her blog, tried out some successfull and some disasterous recipies, did some creative craft works with gugu, fought a lot with gugu, enjoyed gugu's songs, a lotta shopping, lost a pound and put 4 back on, watched Desperate Housewives back to back on DVDs, hmmm what else....yeah..went on a great weekend trip, lunched at a dhaba. And now here I am back to blogging with lots of stuff to blog about! Will be coming up with more posts on the things that I described above, got the pics and all ready...just have to take out time to write down.
Ting

Collectibles

Gary Grossman - The Action Script Czar. I invariably end up buying one or two pieces for myself, they are so cheap too! On one such day I did a flashback into the past and figured that this yummy snack has kept me company since my childhood and continues to do so wherever I go.

First it was the sugarcane juice that I used to have regularly in Hyderabad, on the way back home from school. Occasionally dad used to get the green canes home and mom would clean and dice them into small cubes for us to snack on. Later in my 8th-9th of school years, we happened to shift to a tiny village in AP where Sugarcane was the primary crop. Bam… the cane entered our daily diet. I saw the various forms sugarcane took to get into the market. There is the ever popular juice and the cane, then there is Jaggery at different stages and color and texture. I particularly remember the thick syrup taken out before the final stages of jaggery making. There were a number of sweet treats created with that syrup. It tastes yummy with idli too :).
Aah… those memories...passing through the roads in a rikshaw with sugar cane fields on both sides...the smells of the jaggery making...the sweet treats...hmm feeling nostalgic.

Come college life and voila!...sugarcane again! It was the hot favorite among all the hostel girls. Every evening the cart was allowed to get inside the gate and all of us would flock around it and choose the best ones to buy. Later we’d all gather in a room each with a cane and a dustbin and chat for hours while enjoying the sugarcane. End of the day, the central dustbin of the hostel would be filled with the sugarcane trash and the maids would crib to hell.
Its here that I learnt how to process and eat the sugarcane - pull out the outer skin using your teeth...then break them into pieces...again with teeth! Lucky I never broke any tooth ;-). I infact found this way more enjoyable than eating preprocessed cubes or cutting with a sickle.
Went to a whole new state - Gujarat...and the sugarcane shows up there too! Am I lucky or what ! Well wasn't so easy to eat the hard cane, so I satisfied myself with the juice.

Bangalore; now its two of us who enjoy the cane regularly - my husband and I :). Successfully passed on to him, the art of eating sugarcane. Also, we regularly visit the sugarcane juice stall on 'double road' under the flyover. They've got the best juice I've ever had and whats more ?...its clean and hygienic! The dash of ginger and lemon makes all the difference to the sweet juice.

The sugarcane affair continues...hopefully passing through generations. I won't be surprised if in future my great grand daughter blogs about it!

Ting

Aaja Khaja

ha ha ha ha
thats the name of a restuarant newly opened on BTM road.
the sign board cracks me up every evening on my way back home..
he he he
Ting

Hangover

I had the worst one this Sunday with all the drinking I did on Saturday nite. Once they left, the real trouble started. I guess my body experienced a deep trauma with what I did to it. I am not sure if my kidneys are functioning or not. Seems like the brain is painfully trying to restore the connection with the rest of the body. The entire sunday was spent lying on the bed...nauseous and heavy.

I think i am gonna faint even if I just think of drinks.
Bye bye booze ... for a long long time.

Ting

Small light in the dark

Today I hapenned to read Nimish Adani's blog about the incident where he was treated brutally by the railway officials and then misled by police. I am very sorry for whatever hapenned to him and I totally appreciate his courage and endurance in bringing this to light.

Well, we all know its a bad world out there. Thanks to the info age, we all get to know all the bad things happening and we end up becoming paranoid day by day. But... there are few good things out there too. Its only human that we tend to make a hue and cry when something bad happens, but when something good happens, we don’t seem to propagate it enough. So, lemme narrate the incident that made me feel good about the police, as against the impression most of us have about them.

I will try to wrap it up in short.
This happened around 2 years back. There was a burglary at my home in HSR Layout and we had lost jewellery and electronic goods worth more than a lakh. Please dont ask me why I had so much jewellery at home and not in a bank locker. Its a stupid long story which I don’t intend to bore you with now.
After the theft happened that night police came home with sniff dogs and tried to trace the thief, took complaint from us, estimated the loss, and asked us to go to madivala police station and submit some papers the next day. All that went fine.
We did all that just as formality and didn’t have any hope of getting the stuff back ever. We were depressed for a while and cursed ourselves and our bad luck. After a few months, we got over the incident and went on with our lives. We moved into a new house, our mobile number changed due to some problem, my husband's office moved to a new location etc. We never bothered to inform these changes to the police as we never thought it would be of any use.
6 months later, we get a call from a police station in Banaswadi. The thief was caught in that area and with the help of the records, they could figure out that he was the one who stole our stuff and a few others'. So whatever loot was seized from him was distributed among all the people whose houses he had broken into. We got gold worth 25-30K.
Now my point here is - the police guys could have easily kept the stuff with them and not handover to us. They didnt even have any valid contact info of ours. But still they made all the efforts to trace us and made sure that we got our share.
I definitely commend their act, specially in the times when corruption is all over the place and when its very tempting to grab some easy money. While its sad that incidents like Nimish's strengthen the negative image that our police department has, there are also some good things they do out there, only not loud enough.

Ting

BlogOmania

I am not vetty, I have lots of work to do, but whats going on with me? Why am I coming to this page every now and then? I have spent so much time on my blog this week. You can see what I did there...the pic, the clock, the links et al. Why would I want to call this a mania? Here's why-I am up at 2 in the morning for preparing for some presentation, and in that crunch time also I get to this page and start looking at what more I can do here. Can you believe it!?!... Its like I am hypnotically drawn to it.
OMG, I just realized I am being hijacked from my work even at this moment. Last I remember I was doing some testing that has to be submitted in an hour, I guess that is when the mania struck me again and now I am back to my senses. This has to stop!
Well, since anyways I typed all this down, I might as well publish it ;-)

But this OTTA STOP !
Ting

Atrocity

Before pouring my heart out here, first I would confess my guilt. I know all I would do here is to type on the computer sitting in the comfort of my home and do nothing solid to help eradicate these evils from the world... or from the city to be precise. Whenever I get to know of such happenings, my blood boils and I am filled with lots of thoughts, but I know its all of no use. I don’t want to give any excuses for me not going out and doing something. Its plain and simple - I just don’t get my butt out there to do something.

Ok let me come back to what exactly I am talking about. Its about the news that I read today which put me once again in the spin of mixed emotions - anger, sympathy, frustration and everything. The headline of TOI today is "Murder Shocks BPO City". While I was reading on, I couldn’t stop imagine the condition of the poor girl while she was going through the monstrous behavior of the cab driver and finally ended up in death a ditch. Aaarrggghhh I just wished that I was just dreaming and that this wasn’t real.

What an irony. Just today morning I was reading some articles in Femina where women said that Bangalore is a safe place compared to the other metros. And late in the afternoon I got to see the newspaper and the shocking news stared in my face. Why do these guys do it? I really cant understand why do people just go all the way to ruin the good things that happen in life. I do believe that the upspring of BPOs and call centers would have brought in jobs for a lot of people including these cab service providers and the drivers. Why cant they be happy with it? Why does someone have to do such a gory thing and spoil their life and other people's lives?

I really dont feel hanging a rapist to death is the ideal punishment. Death sentence does not justify the crime that the person committed by raping a girl. I strongly feel there should be a much cruel punishment for such people. Right now my mind is screaming that the person should be tortured in all possible ways till he dies naturally. Something like burning parts of his skin everyday with red hot iron bars. Then let the wounds not heal by pricking them with needles every one hour. People can suggest more on this kind of sadistic punishments. My husband says the rapist's thing should be cut off without even anesthesia and let him out in the world - Cut off the source of the crime. And I kinda agree with him. The criminal should suffer each and every minute of the rest of his life for committing such a sin. I really hope the Govt. passes such a law. Not only does it let the criminal suffer for what he did, but it also would bring jitters to the future rapists in the making. Every guy should get scared to death before even he could think of raping a girl. I think this is the only solution to prevent further rapes in the world.

Nothing can replace the pain the girl would have gone through while taking her last breath. Nothing can replace the husband's and the parents' grief. All I can pray for is "may her soul rest in peace".

Ting

Bhoooo :'(

I lost my bike keys :'((((
I remember few days back I parked the dio in my husband's office and put the keys in my bag. Now when I want to take the bike back, I dont find my keys. They are gone from my bag. Also my office cupboard keys are gone. The worst part is, I cant find the duplicate keys of the bike either. I remember that when I bought the bike, I carefully kept the duplicate key somewhere safe. And now my darn mind didnt register that "safe" place.
This is so stupid. I hate it. I hate these kind of mysteries. My husband is trying to be patient right now but I know what is going on in his head. He would be definitely blaming it on the way I maintain my bag. The super organized and a stickler for neatness that I am at home, when it comes to my bag and the closet, I am the worst ever. Its like Monica having a secret dirty closet, I have a cluttered bag and a horrible closet at home. If one opens the front pouch of my bag, they can see a whole world in it. Lipsticks, keys(many types), lip pencils, atm slips, scarf, some old grocery bills (everything except the one important bill that you need sometime), chocolate wrappers (sometimes melted chocolate in them), a wallet, some coins, combs (actually roller which pricked me once or twice when i put the hand in without seeing), etc etc etc.... you name it and its there. From outside its a nice green bag, but who would think what all garbage I am carrying in it. Now my husband's guess (and now mine too) is that sometime while trying to pull out something out of that rubbish sack, the keys would have dropped out.
Bhooooooo....I want my keys back.....pleeeaaaseeeeee....
When I realized this in the morning, I quickly cleaned my bag and organized everything, hoping that God would see my effort and put the keys back in them. But that didnt happen...and same would be the case with the organized bag. It wouldnt stay that way for long. I am sure.
Know what, I know how to make the best out of the worst things...Now I am demanding my husband for a new bag with lots of pouches....eeeahhahahahahaa
And today I found a way to turn the blame on him...I think the main cause is the lack of a good keychain. Everytime I put a new keychain to those keys, he somehow manages to break it. So, since the keys are so small and dont have a keychain, I wouldnt have noticed even if it fell down somewhere.
Ahha!...now its no more my fault :-) ting ting titing
So what do you learn?...When its impossible to undo something stupid you did, start thinking of ways to blame it on your husband...coz thats possible he he

Ting

Do I really need to blog?

Where the hell does everyone find time to blog yaar! Even if I do get time, I am so damn lazy to type down something over here. Yes, I dont mind typing down loads and loads of crap on someone's chat window, but then, thats an interaction...there is someone on the other end reading (atleast you think they do)...responding etc.
Actually, if I look at it, my mind is never idle, it is full of thoughts all the while, no matter whether they make sense or not.
