But it did happen with me, so am still gonna retain the post)

Yet another crib session.

Just now got a forward from a friend that said about a plan to boycott all the theatres , malls and restaurants in Bangalore by the software guys for a month so as to teach them a lesson not to hike the prices for no reason.
Now this reminded me of something that I wanted to post a few weeks back and forgot. So doing it now.

After my last visit to PVR, I swore not to go there again. Here's why:
I buy tickets for Lage Raho Munnabhai late nite show on a sunday. Price - Rs.180/-. The ticket said the movie starts at 10pm. I was already running late, so I quickly gobbled up my icecream (I got one more crib session on this icecream coming up) standing outside the entrance (they wont let you take outside food inside the theatre) and manage to get in right at 10:05 pm so that I don't miss the start of the movie.
I wait and wait and wait for the movie to start, but all I see is commercials of some goddamn underwears and toothpastes and colas. And the movie finally starts at 10:40 pm. WTH?????
I didn't pay 180 bucks to these fellows to sit and watch commercials, I can do that right at home on TV!!!
First of all I am pissed with the unreasonable prices of the ticket. And to top it, they show me ads!!!!
In Hyd, the ticket costs 60-80 bucks in a posh theatre Prasads. I was riding to office at 10:30 am, a time when traffic is still dense but fairly smooth moving. Near madivala, while I am on the left-most lane, I hear lot of honking suddenly. I turn my head right and see a funny / pathetic scene. Two autos going parallel to each other, the second one just at the end of the first one...get the picture? Now the second auto wala had his leg placed on the first auto. And they both are trying to maintain that by driving slow. No, it't not like one guy is pulling the other. They are just driving in tandem. Some fun stunt for them. The entire road ahead of them is free and there is a huge traffic block in the making behind them, cause the first auto guy occupied half of the middle lane and the second guy took over the first lane. Now how would 4 wheelers go ahead. They honk and honk and nothing pinches these two ridiculous auto fellas.

Since I am on the last lane and on a 2 wheeler, I could go past. While I was riding, this thing was going on in my mind.

Come christ college....what do i see????.... Two more autos in the same stunt. I can tell that they are not the previous auto guys. No kidding! Same day, same funny incident, second time. For a moment I thought, 'is it some kinda festival for auto guys that they do this on that day'. Well, my mind is pretty wacky in imagination, so never mind. This time, their stunt was actually stopping me from moving ahead. So I went a bit near the second auto walla, honk once to get his attention, then move my hand like saying 'Wat's going on'... I can't talk from inside a helmet. This guy starts yelling at me in kannada that I couldn't get anyways. But he did act like a gunda. So I quietly took off from there.

Now tell me....WHAT CAN WE DO?

The so called traffic rules and fines...are they anywhere applicable here? Are there any cops patrolling on the roads to keep a check on such stuff? Would taking the auto number and reporting to some police actually yield any result? I guess NO. Aaarggghhh.

I don't wanna get started on their tampered meters and their whimsical charges. Do we really do anything? Are we boring? Are we getting old? Oh no, we should'nt be that way. Gotta socialize and party more often. Ok good, lemme start with this one. Hmm...

Scene: A bunch of old connections, drinking away and also dancing away at a pub. Hubby and I fit in (or I thought we did). Gang shifs party zone to one of the guys' house. A few cars filled with the gang following a bike and trying to keep track...past midnite!
Thought2: Hey this is nice. This is a whole different world than what we are living in. I like it. Its fun! Am loving it! It is safe, there is no drugs involved(that was my impression of nite life :))...just booze and friends. We should be doing this...why weren't we doing this? Hmmm...

Next day: sms from friend: party at Fuga, be there!
Thought3: Oh No, I thought parties were once a week. Two nites in a row !?!...hmm I dont think I wanna do it. Somehow I am not getting the entu. Don't know the reason. Plus, when do I take care of the other things I had planned for...things that I am unable to take care of during the week. Ok say NO.
Oh wait...wat about being a part of the party gang and being hapenning and stuff?...
Hmm...

That nite: In a nice semi-romantic restaurant with hubby, sipping cocktail and talking sweet nothings and enjoying the food
Thought4: Seems I like this one more than the party last nite, although I seemed to have enjoyed it at that time. I think I wanna hang out just with my hubby...either at home, or at a nice restaurant...or even if its at a pub. Hubby seems to be on the same page.
Yes, we otta be doing this more and the other thing once in a while. That gives a good balance.
And about being hapenning and all...well, who cares! The word I should be looking for is "being enjoying"...and I guess we are right there. So just hang in there.

Hmm...a chain of thoughts that actually led to some clarity and a good conclusion. Ah great!...how often does this really happen anyways :-)
Ting
Tweetyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02745856487057910424noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19296037.post-1159737721281505722006-10-01T14:16:00.000-07:002006-10-01T14:38:25.266-07:00Latest crazeA few days back Vels told me about this song Newyork Nagaram, and at first when I heard it, I did not like it. And like most of the time, I have grown a liking to it only after listening to the song after quite somet time. Later I discovered the other song from the same movie which is also quite addictive. Here are the two:

NewYork Nagaram

Munbe vaa en anbe vaa

And here's the trailor which is making me wanna go and watch the movie right away, although I wouldn't get a word of that language :-)

By the way, did I mention before...I got this huge crush on this Surya guy (without moush ofcourse)...Sigh! he married someone who I'd call an Idly (out of Jealousy). I gotta admit she looked slimmer in that Newyork song.

Anyways, like all the previous crazes I had, this one also has to fade...the question is when. Lemme wait and see.
Ting
Tweetyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02745856487057910424noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19296037.post-1157313747958570052006-09-03T12:56:00.000-07:002006-09-03T13:04:00.650-07:00Amazing Gamehttp://www.20q.net/

I came to know of this from some old archives of another blog that I frequent. The market sports such a festive look and all that hustle bustle! Probably the only time that you wouldn't mind paying a bit extra to the vendors though you know they have raised the prices for that one day. Afterall, it's a festival for them too, it wouldn't hurt to pay a bit more and let them enjoy it :). I carefully pick a good looking small idol. All through my childhood we've been using a non-colored clay idol and I would always crib. Now that I am on my own, I go pick the colorful ones :) . Yes I am going to switch back to non-colored ones next year ... for our environment sake.

Back to home, decorate the front door with flower garland and mango leaves. Doesn't it make the house look so nice from outside! Everyone knows its a special day :)

I have learnt two traditional dishes from my Mom for making for this festival - Kudumulu and Paravannam. I love this part! You can get so creative :). This year I was able to set up a glow behind the idol, like a halo we see behind God pictures. While I was with my parents, the decoration used to be quite elaborate. It used to be the best part of the day (next to eating the kudumulu ofcourse), coz Dad would make us feel responsible by letting us help him in doing up the pooja place. We hang a wooden mesh kind of thing above the idol and then tie fruits around it. We also decorate the hanging thread with mango leaves and then fill the top of the mesh with lots of leaves. It all looks so pretty. Unfortunately I haven't found that mesh thingie in Bangalore. So I do it the way you see in the picture.
At my parents place, my Dad would read all the mantras and narrate the story and significance of the festival, its the way the pooja is done. But here I had not done that the last 2 times. But this time I discovered the entire mantra and story sequence on Raaga.com ! So, I just played it while I did the pooja :)! Could I be more techy!!!!

So finally its prasadam time and then exchanging the prasadam with neighbours and friends. The evening is spent going around and seeing different types decorations in various Ganesha temples, meeting freinds etc.

Totally satisfying and feel good day, my favrourite festival day- Lord Ganesha's Birthday!

Ting
Tweetyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02745856487057910424noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19296037.post-1150114957328667342006-06-12T05:19:00.000-07:002006-06-13T21:41:13.816-07:00Fine DiningOlive Beach - Gourmet a la elegancy.
Nicely tucked into a quite steet near Richmond Road, this one is a surprising discovery I'd say.

The Cuisine - Mediterranean
Service - Firstclass
Ambience - Romantic. They totally blew us away. There was nothing I could complain of.
It's not the kind of place where they say they serve Thai and end up serving the same old chinese fried rice topped with some basil. This place takes it's cuisine quite seriously. I had food that I had never tasted before but only read of in food magazines. There was nothing predictable. Each dish that came to the table was totally new and had a story to it. The waiter really did a good job explaining us each and every thing that went into the dish. I never thought I'd eat something like pearly barley for the main course and vegetarian sushi made of wine-leaves and rice. Simply Amazing!

More often than not, when we enter such speciality restaurants, we find very less selection of vegetarian food, but this one had enough stuff, although I could ask for a bit more :)

So there...now that I have a strong recommendation for this restaurant, go ahead and splurge a bit and enjoy the flavourful culinary journey. Don't miss the kiwi margarita, manhattan and mezzanine !
Ting
Tweetyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02745856487057910424noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19296037.post-1149576565162283422006-06-05T23:49:00.000-07:002006-06-07T23:26:15.570-07:00Sounds of Nature

Just created my youtube account and uploaded some stuff. I am not talking about the hybrid and the fake varieties that you find just on the outskirts with the huts and all. I am talking real stuff. The original crude form dhabas.
My first experience of Dhaba was around 12 years back on the highway between Nasik and Shirdi. I was totally amused to see the small set up with a earthen oven on one side and a small kitchen. We had to sit on coir woven cots with a wooden plank in between which serves as the table. And the food arrives in a thali...two rotis, an onion and a green chilli. Had never seen anything like that before in my life! Then the curries come along in small oval shaped bowls. Seeing the puzzled look on our faces, one of the other customers (lorry driver) showed us what to do with the onion...just give one good bang with your wrist and it would break open. Then enjoy the roti with onion and mirchi. I couldn't do that though...but the entire thing was so amusing.
With a few more road trips I had gotten accustomed to Dhaba eating.
One other Dhaba that I particularly remember is on the Delhi-Jaipur highway. The food was heavenly. The Dhaba guy was very friendly and seeing that we really enjoyed his achar, he packed a big dabba of that achar and handed it over to us while paying the bill. It was so sweet of him :)
Well I don't have any digital pics of those Dhabas, but the memories are intact.

In the past 5 years I had no chance of enjoying a good dhaba until recently when I caught a small nice Dhaba on the highway somewhere between Tiptur and Gubbi. It was almost on par with the authentic dhabas that I talked about. Quite a modest one. Infact here I entertained myself looking at 4-5 people doing their assigned duties for the evening...one was peeling and cleaning the onions, the other was chopping them, another one was cutting the bhindi. The one thing that made me widen my eyes was a person chopping green chillies- A huuuuge heap of cut green chillies(forgot to take a pic). Gosh, thats my hell. Ofcourse I was hit by it in the food too ;). All these guys were really enjoying their work while the music played from a stereo from behind. Ah what a sight!

When the food arrived, I could'nt help appreciating the attempt they made in decorating the salad with an inverted cut lemon :)...quite creative! The taste of the dishes was yummy...the smoke flavour that I love enhanced the taste even more.

Once in a while it's fun to forget about hygene and stuff and go back to the basics and enjoy...isn't it?

He he, I know. It was an experience we never had before. The log-hut atop a tiny hill infront of the river with all the 3star setup, yet very simple and natural - Beautiful. The best part was the view of the river and a few islands from the balcony and the sound of the water waves plus bomboo bushes swaying with the breeze while you comfortably rest on the bed. And the cool breeze which is so fresh and far from pollution, just took my breath away ;).

In the morning we went around the tiny island and there wasn't a single soul around except we two. It was so thrilling! We felt like we were stranded in an island and felt quite adventurous. Supra was all set to be Tom Hanks in Cast Away :)). It was so fun both of us constructing the story for an imaginary movie with just the two of us.

Excellent excellent short trip.

Info: http://www.junglelodges.com/resort_overview.asp?resort=River+Tern+Lodge
Ting
Tweetyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02745856487057910424noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19296037.post-1148837098176532042006-05-28T10:14:00.000-07:002006-05-28T10:53:42.206-07:00Fine Craftswomenship ;-)The stuff that Gugu and I made when she was here:
Lampshade

Floor Lamps

Jewellery

Ting
Tweetyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02745856487057910424noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19296037.post-1148572906126553462006-05-25T08:59:00.000-07:002006-05-25T21:56:35.070-07:00Tadaaa I am backWell not completely, I am still transitioning to the blog world from the outer world that I had been lost in for a while.

Did someone miss me? I know a few people did :). Ok welcome me back.

So what was I upto all these days?..hmm..lemme recall a few. Visited Chennai (not so nice), got my car wind shield broken and later repaired, had my youngest sis gugu over to give me company, created a design for her blog, tried out some successfull and some disasterous recipies, did some creative craft works with gugu, fought a lot with gugu, enjoyed gugu's songs, a lotta shopping, lost a pound and put 4 back on, watched Desperate Housewives back to back on DVDs, hmmm what else....yeah..went on a great weekend trip, lunched at a dhaba. And now here I am back to blogging with lots of stuff to blog about! Will be coming up with more posts on the things that I described above, got the pics and all ready...just have to take out time to write down.
Ting
Tweetyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02745856487057910424noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19296037.post-1142240212667294902006-03-13T00:48:00.000-08:002006-03-13T01:07:20.693-08:00Collectibles
Gary Grossman - The Action Script Czar. Its much better if you watch it without knowing anything about the movie before, like I did.
Right now all I wanna do is propagate this movie and encourage as many people as possible to go and watch it.

C'mon...good movies aren't made often!

Ting
Tweetyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02745856487057910424noreply@blogger.com8
